Bobsleigh is a Winter Olympic event in which a two- or four-person team races down an ice track in a specially designed sled, with the winning team finishing the course in the quickest time. It is also known as bobsledding. Teams completed timed laps on snow downwards, turning and banking in ice tracks in a gravity-powered sled devised by Swiss in the 1860s.
The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Body (IBSF), formerly known as the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT), is an international bobsleigh and skeleton sports federation.

Bobsleigh sport initially began in the late 18th century with the foundation of St Moritz club in Switzerland in 1897.The sport then advanced when two skeleton sleds were attached together and a steering added to make a toboggan. A chassis was then added to give protection to the sportsmen.
In 1923 the sport became internationally recognized and it was included for the first time in winter Olympics held in Chamonix France in 1924.The sport was included in the other winter Olympic games until during world war 2 when it was halted. Males were the only participant in the Olympics.
The turnover of the sport came in 1999 when women bobsledders were added to the sport by the International Olympic Committee.
