Freestyle skiing is an Olympic sport involving special tricks and jumps, which involves ski slopestyle, halfpipe, ski cross, and aerial freestyle disciplines.
Freestyle Skiing Olympic History
The Olympic history of Freestyle Skiing began in 1998 when it became an official sport. It was one of the first sports to be added to the Winter Olympics after the summer games were completed. At its debut, there were six gold medals awarded for this event. Women’s events were introduced four years later, in 2002 at Salt Lake City.
2022 Winter Olympics Freestyle Skiing Dates and Venues
The Olympics will take place between February 4th-20th. The Freestyle Skiing events are scheduled to place Feb 19 through the 21st at Phoenix Snow Park, Bokwang Snow Park, Yongpyong Alpine Centre, and Alpensia Sliding Centre.
The opening ceremony will be held on Feb 4, 2022, and the closing ceremony on Feb 20, 2022.
China will host the 2022 winter Olympics where different sports will be hosted in a total of four cities. These four cities are Beijing, Zhangjiakou, Yanqing, and Chongli.
The 2022 winter Olympics have already started accepting bids for different countries to host certain winter Olympic events. The International Ski Federation (FIS) has several events within the Winter Olympics, such as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, nordic combined, ski jumping, and freestyle skiing.

The 2022 winter Olympics freestyle skiing competition will be separated into four categories: ski-cross (racewalking), halfpipe, ski slopestyle, and aerials. The Ski-cross event involves four racers starting simultaneously with each racer on their track. The idea is to be the first to cross the line after completing all of your obstacles.
Freestyle Skiing Rules- Terms
In freestyle skiing, there is a list of rules and regulations that come along with the sport. Some of these include:
- If a skier touches anything other than the ground with either end of their body at any time during their run, then that run will be disqualified. The skier cannot use assistance from other people or objects and must perform the tricks themselves; if outside sources assist anything, it will be disqualified.
- If a skier fails to land their trick safely and properly without touching any part of their body other than their ski poles to the ground, that run will also be disqualified.
- If a skier does not complete all of their tricks during their run, that run will not be counted.
- A skier may only perform one jump per part of the course that they land on.
- Any falls or crashes where a skier makes contact with the ground will result in an automatic loss.
